Netflix tests character names in the game, allowing you to play with other users

Netflix has steadily increased its commitment to the mobile game market over the past year. Starting with the release of the Stranger Things combo game in August 2021, Netflix added more titles and then began acquiring development studios for mobile games.

Netflix is said to be preparing to make some improvements to the gaming platform. Developer Steve Moser said he discovered references to the feature in Netflix's mobile app. According to the report, Netflix is testing a "game handle", which is simply the character name to display on Netflix's game, which is different from the Netflix registered name.

Netflix has been experimenting with displaying game-specific usernames for a while. TechCrunch reports that Netflix introduced the game handle in the game Into the Breach, on July 19. From there, the experiment expanded to Bowling Ballers, Mahjong Solitaire and Heads Up!.

According to Moser, information from Netflix's mobile app indicates the company plans to use these public monikers for invites to multiplayer games and leaderboard competitions.

"We're always looking to improve the user experience of the service, and are exploring various features to enrich Netflix's mobile gaming experience," a Netflix spokesperson said.
