Warning from EU data agency: Don't download the Qatar World Cup app!

Europe's data protection chiefs have just issued a warning saying Qatar's World Cup app poses a big privacy risk, so don't download it. People working at the data protection bureau in Germany also confirmed.

In a statement on Tuesday, the German data protection agency said that the two World Cup applications mentioned above require more data than usual. "There's an app that asks to know if the device can make calls, and what number to call," they said.

"Another application not only saves data on the device but also transmits it to another server," continued the German side, if forced to download the application, download it on the secondary phone .

The Norwegian side said that there will be a percentage of visitors in Qatar that will be monitored by the government. The French company recommends that users be careful with photos and videos. Currently, nearly 1.5 million people come to Qatar to watch the World Cup, which runs from November 20 to December 18.

Foreign nationals visiting the country have been asked to download the official World Cup app, Hayya, while those visiting healthcare facilities have been asked to download the Ehteraz infection tracking app .

Both apps have been labeled as "spyware" by experts because they provide the Qatari government with broad access to people's data, which the Qatari government has not yet officially commented on.
