Sony launches 3D motion capture device, making anime editing simple

Sony has launched a new character motion sensor called Sony Mocopi in Japan. To use Mocopi, users need to wear six sensors and connect them to their smartphone , from which users can unleash their creativity in creating short animated movies.

The six Sony Mocopi sensors can be used to record the user's left and right head, wrist, waist and ankle movements. The sensors will then connect the user's movement to the 3D skeleton via the smartphone.

The Sony Mocopi plugins are compatible with motion-enabled software such as VMC, Unity and MotionBuilder. The Mocopi app can record voice and create facial expressions for virtual characters. These apps are available in Sony's Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 series as well as Apple 's iPhones.

More 3D models are expected to be added to the list in the Mocopi app in the future. Each Mocopi sensor can be used with up to 10 hours of battery life and has a weight of 8 g.
