MediaTek launches new chip for routers and mobile transmitters

MediaTek is one of the leading smartphone chip manufacturers today. Not only phone chips, the company has also expanded its portfolio to other devices such as smart TVs and IoT products. Recently, MediaTek has launched a new chip model for routers.

The new chip model, called MediaTek T830, is aimed at Wi-Fi routers as well as mobile hotspot devices and supports 5G connectivity.

The MediaTek T830 5G chip uses a self-developed M80 modem, supporting sub-6GHz band for global 5G connectivity. The T830 has a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU paired with a 3GPP Release-16 cellular modem.

This chip model also comes with a Network Processing Unit (NPU) that supports 20 Gbps through 5G cellular connections to ethernet or Wi-Fi without CPU involvement.

The MediaTek T830 5G chip can be paired with the company's Filogic Wi-Fi connectivity solutions. For 5G FWA routers, T830 can be paired with Filogic 680 (Wi-Fi 7 3-band 4 x 4) and for 5G mobile hotspots, T830 can be paired with Filogic 380 ( Dual-band Wi-Fi 2 x 2 - Fi 7).
