Car angle: Apple agrees to TSMC's request to increase chip prices

A report from Economic Daily News said that last week TSMC had agreed with Apple to increase the price of chip production in 2023, but Apple did not agree. Today this page is back with new information that the two sides have completed the negotiation.

According to the news site, TSMC informed its partners (such as Apple and NVIDIA) that they will increase the price of 8-inch and 12-inch wafers (material for manufacturing microprocessors), by 6% and 5% respectively. . At first Apple did not agree to this, but today the two have found common ground.

For Apple, TSMC is a big business partner, a source of processors for many devices such as iPhone, iPad , MacBook . With the large number that Apple orders every year, it is not difficult for the two to soon complete the negotiation.

Economic Daily News also pointed out that the weakening economic situation globally led TSMC to raise producer prices. Perhaps because of this, Apple limits the new processor on the iPhone Pro Series models (most recently the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max ).

TSMC will still process Apple A17 processor, 3 nm process for Apple, as well as Apple M3. In another development, Samsung also joined the chip manufacturing race when it was reported that it was working on a 3 nm processor. It is possible that the Korean corporation will become a partner of Apple in the future.
